Peer Review Process

Cidades, Comunidades e Territórios is a peer reviewed journal; a Double Blind Peer Review is ensured as strict anonymity is accorded to both authors and referees. In order to ensure the Blind Peer Review process, authors are asked to make sure that all information about their identities (names, emails, affiliations, and references) is removed from the text (See also Author Guidelines).

Each article will be reviewed by two referees designated by the Editorial Committee for their expertise.

Open Access Policy

Cidades, Comunidades e Territórios advocates free, open, public, online: (i) access by person or machine to the publicly-funded archival scientific and technical research literature; and (ii) computational reuse, integration, and distillation of that literature into higher-order knowledge elements.

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

CIDADES, Comunidades e Territórios is committed to ensuring ethics in publication and quality of articles.

Conformance to standards of ethical behavior is therefore expected of all parties involved: Authors, Editors, Reviewers, and the Publisher.

In particular,

Authors: Authors should present an objective discussion of the significance of research work as well as sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the experiments. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable. Review articles should also be objective, comprehensive, and accurate accounts of the state of the art. The authors should ensure that their work is entirely original works, and if the work and/or words of others have been used, this has been appropriately acknowledged. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. Authors should not submit articles describing essentially the same research to more than one journal. The corresponding author should ensure that there is a full consensus of all co-authors in approving the final version of the paper and its submission for publication.

Editors: Editors should evaluate manuscripts exclusively on the basis of their academic merit. An editor must not use unpublished information in the editor's own research without the express written consent of the author. Editors should take reasonable responsive measures when ethical complaints have been presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published paper.

Reviewers: Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviews should be conducted objectively, and observations should be formulated clearly with supporting arguments, so that authors can use them for improving the paper. Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Research Centre

Cidades, Comunidades e Territórios is an online jornal published by DINÂMIA'CET-IUL.

DINÂMIA'CET – Research Centre on Socioeconomic Change and the Territory – is an ISCTE-IUL study centre with the primary aim of conducting multidisciplinary and comparative research and studies on processes of social, economic and territorial change in the European and international contexts. It currently has over 100 researchers, including around 50 PhDs, from many different disciplinary backgrounds (economics, sociology, law, architecture, regional and urban planning, anthropology, geography, management, quantitative methods, etc.).
Multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity have been a key part of the Centre’s identity from the outset, and this has been reinforced not only by the merger of DINÂMIA and CET - Territorial Study Centre in 2009, but also by the recent addition of ISCTE-IUL’s researchers in architecture to the team.

DINÂMIA'CET-IUL researchers combine extensive involvement in advanced international research with commitment to furthering knowledge about the Portuguese reality in the belief that this is the best way to contribute to the country’s socioeconomic and territorial development process. The Centre belongs to many international and national networks, including European networks of excellence. Its researchers participate regularly in conferences, colloquiums and scientific seminars in Portugal and abroad and disseminate the outcome of their work in journals, books and other national and international publications.

In addition to fundamental and applied research and the provision of services to the community, the Centre is firmly committed to scientific dissemination and organises dozens of seminars and conferences every year. DINÂMIA'CET also publishes an on-line journal on urban and territorial studies and a series of Working Papers – both of which are peer reviewed.

DINÂMIA'CET has the following three main areas of research, each organised into multi-annual research programmes:

  • Innovation, Knowledge and Labour
  • Cities and Territories
  • Governance, Economy and Society

DINÂMIA'CET is an associate centre of ISCTE-IUL’s Master’s and PhD programmes in the areas of economics and public policies (more specifically in monetary, territorial, innovation and human resources fields and supporting the formulation, monitoring and evaluation of policies), economic and social development, urban and territorial studies, architecture and urbanism, and law. All these areas are built upon a solid knowledge base and are thus able to support many PhD scholars and frame post doctoral studies. It is a part of the ISCTE-IUL School of Social and Human Sciences.

The unit is certified and evaluated by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Foundation for Science and Technology), classified as Excellent. It has received funding from public and private entities – both national and European; these include the FCT, the Gulbenkian Foundation, Portuguese public entities and institutions, IPSS, professional and employers’ associations, trade unions, the European Commission, European foundations, among many others. It works regularly in partnership with a range of Portuguese and foreign research centres.
