i It is based on the results of a British Academy-funded research project.

ii Generally, age and social status impacted little if at all on the interviewees’ perceptions. Only immigration characteristics, namely intergenerational differences contributed to some extend to shaping perceptions of the interviewees. Members of the old and new diaspora have divergent expectations vis-à-vis the Ukrainian government. Notably, the representatives of the old diaspora had little expectations from the Ukrainian government whereas the new diaspora had high expectations.

iii The sample consists of 21 interviews in the UK, 20 interviews in Poland and two interviews in Ukraine. Amongst those: 20 with representatives of diaspora organisations; three with community leaders; 10 with professionals/activists/volunteers; four with business people; two with representatives of the Embassies; two with Church representatives; two with experts in Ukraine.
