Abstract

The present work fits into the increasingly relevant role of environmental sustainability in the hospitality subsector. In this study, focused on the Portuguese reality, more specifically on the Lisbon region, the aim was to position consumer behavior in the hospitality sector and how the future of environmental sustainability in Portuguese hotels is envisioned. Climate change has become increasingly noticeable, and the hotel industry has become increasingly responsible. Through the elaboration and application of a questionnaire survey on the subject, the main results indicate that, in a general way, there is a concern with environmental sustainability, although its practice and concern is more noticeable among younger people, thus appearing to be an optimistic scenario for the future of environmental sustainability practices in the area of tourism.
