Abstract

Due to its balanced nutritional potential, tomato stands in a relevant position in economy and gastronomy. Considering that it is a high production culture, the pursue of new techniques that increase the quality of the final product is constant, in order to satisfy consumer demand and concomitantly ensure an efficient application of the resources associated to production. In this context, the automation of agriculture is a fundamental step towards innovation, being known as precision agriculture. In the present study, a pilot-scale real-time monitoring system, to produce greenhouse tomatoes in acclimatized hydroponics is proposed. The presented system has several types of sensors that send a signal to a central node, the data is then detected and sent to a farmer's computer or mobile phone. This study is part of the TomatInov project and took place in the West region (Oeste), in Portugal.
