Abstract

This text is an attempt to apply the theories of specialization and international trade to the Portuguese economy, particularly in the industrial domain. It is structured in three parts. First, one will shortly present the theories of specialization at the factor level, in relation to the issue of the international transference of value (unequal exchange). The second part will be rather retrospective, having for its purpose the analysis of the specialization obtained by the Portuguese economy, particularly at the industrial level in 1968-78. The third one will be rather prospective, placing itself within the effort of synthesis of the discussions that, under the theme of the development model inside the framework of Portugal's adhesion to the E.E.C., have taken place after the middle of 1980.
