Cidadania na gestão de conflitos: a negociação na, para e com a mediação?
Keywords:
conflict management, negotiation, mediationAbstract
Living in peace is a complex process that implies an individual and collective necessity and a right that we all have in life. Building this right requires the participation of all and thus, the exercise of true citizenship. According to Pruitt (2008) and Parkinson (2008), processes as direct negotiation, conciliation, mediation and agreement facilitation are considered “appropriated” to constructive conflict resolution because they can adjust to the specific dispute and to the available resources. Since a world in peace doesn’t mean conflict inexistence, we analyze the relationship between negotiation and mediation as complementary means to pacifism building and citizenship promotion, giving special attention to the nature, philosophy, stages and similarities and differences between them. The theoretical reflection undertaken in this article brings some inovation to Portuguese reality, since negotiation and mediation theories, in spite of the growing interest they are raising, still have scarce scientific projection in our country.Downloads
