Porto in students' mind maps

Abstract

This article discuss about a research results which objective was to know  the symbolic field of the city of Porto and its appropriations through the students of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. With a convenience sample, a survey was applied resulting in 108 answers. To know the mental images of the students, 5 mental maps were collected. The results allows to know the appropriations and meanings that the students attribute to the city through a reading of the existing relations between the students and the city spaces as carriers of feelings and experiences.

Diogo Guedes Vidal, Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do PortoSociologo at InfoMercado

Diogo Guedes Vidal holds a Degree (2014) and a Master Degree (2016) in Sociology (specialized in Sociology of Territory and City) from the University of Porto, Portugal. He starts his professional activity during the development of his master research as collaborator in a research project at Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto. Between September 2016 and January 2017 he had been sociologist in a market research company. Since 2017 he is research fellow at Fernando Pessoa Energy, Environment and Health Research Unit of University Fernando Pessoa where he is PhD student in Ecology and Environmental Health. Since 2018 he is research collaborator at Bahiana School of Medicine and Public Health.

Helena Vilaça, Instituto de Sociologia da Universidade do Porto e Departamento de Sociologia da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto

Helena Vilaça licenciou-se em sociologia pela Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. É doutorada em sociologia, desde 2003, pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto (FLUP), onde é professora auxiliar com agregação no Departamento de Sociologia. Em 2011 foi Professora convidada do Departamento de Teologia da Universidade de Uppsala (Suécia) e em 2013 foi eleita para o Conselho da International Society for the Sociology of Religion.

É investigadora do Instituto de Sociologia da Universidade do Porto e o seu trabalho científico tem incidido de modo dominante sobre a religião, e.g., pluralismo religioso e ético; migrações, etnicidade e religião; catolicismo português, comunidades protestantes e evangélicas. Tem investigado estas temáticas em várias redes e projetos internacionais, dos quais destacamos: “L’Église catholique face aux nouveaux défis éthiques, sociaux et politiques” (1009-2013), no âmbito da rede GERICR, financiado pelo Ministério da Ciência de Espanha; “Imigração, etnicidades e religião: comunidades religiosas e imigrantes da Europa de Leste” (2008-2010), apoiado pela FCT; “Church and Religion in an Enlarged Europe” (2004-2008), apoiado pela Fundação Wolkswagen; “Religious and Moral Pluralism” (1995-2001), financiado pela European Science Foundation.

Interessada na relação entre cristianismo evangélico e modernidade, investiga presentemente fenómenos de plantação e de revitalização de igrejas locais na Europa e particularmente em Portugal, a sua presença no ciberespaço, e o papel da reverse mission – i.e., vinda para a Europa de missionários do sul do globo, nomeadamente do Brasil e de África – na recristianização europeia.
