Abstract

This article analyzes two decades of recoveries of bankrupt companies by workers in Argentina. More than three hundred and fifty cases reveal an unprecedented process of struggle worldwide. Cooperatives are ambivalent processes. The dismissal of the employer's power drove thought, creativity and solidarity but also proliferated individualistic and delegative behaviors among its protagonists. Cooperatives mostly navigate between a subsistence economy, financial and technological precariousness, and state subsidies. This generation of workers pushed the limits of the possible, but over time also exposed its limits.
