What is to be a fan?
An approach to the Harry Potter fandom in Argentina
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze what being a fan implies, based on the case of the Harry Potter «fandom» in Argentina. For this, the representations, activities and links of the fans will be investigated. An anthropological methodology centered on classical and virtual ethnographic fieldwork was used, complemented by source analysis. I maintain that being a fan implies certain ways of doing, thinking and feeling around an object of interest. In the same way, being part of a «fandom» entails the construction of shared and collective identities.
