Individualismo e colectivismo: estudo exploratório com adolescentes nos contextos culturais português e romeno
Abstract
The central aim of the present study was to investigate in two distinct cultural contexts – Portuguese and Romanian – the significance adolescents attribute to the cultural dimension of individualism-collectivism (IND/COL), in order to subsequently launch some paths for the study of the relation between this cultural dimension and a more psychological one, namely, personal conceptions of intelligence (PCI) of adolescents in the above mentioned cultural contexts. Thus, in order to clarify the conceptual framework of the IND/COL dimension among adolescents, we conducted a series of individual, semi-structured interviews, with 39 pupils (20 Portuguese and 19 Romanian), 10th and 12th graders. We explored the significance attributed by participants to IND/COL in three distinct domains of action and interaction: family, peer group and school, this last domain was also investigated as to the meaning participants attach to intelligence and school success.
