Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the importance that local development has acquired in a peripheral area such as Galícia (Spain). A brief diagnosis of the main socio-cultural and territorial variables are presented. The main institutions and programs in this field that were active in Galicia are also referred to. Finally, a spontaneous process of local development is presented: the changes undergone in the small cities of Galicia in the last decades.
