Abstract

The central objective of this article is to discuss the implementation of urban policies in Brazil in the last thirty years (1970-2000). During this period there are fundamental changes in the country's political-economic landscape. The development model was exhausted and liberal policies were installed, which affected the State's leadership in the face of urban problems that, due to the previous model, also had their profile modified.
