Abstract

For over four decades, Rui Alberto Mateus Pereira (1957-2020) had a profound impact on the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Department of Anthropology. His trajectory outside academia, holding highly relevant public positions in the field of cultural practices and policies, never distanced him from his home, the campus on Berna avenue (Lisbon), where he continued to teach with ever-renewed dedication. He reconciled his multiple managerial responsibilities with his research, maintaining intellectual and affective links with anthropology, with his peers, and with his many students. Representatives of four generations marked and united by this unique figure leave their testimonies – four testimonies – in memory of the anthropologist, former colleague, professor, and friend
