This paper aims to address the socio-environmental conflict that opposed ecological social movements to a fracking project in Bajouca, near Leiria (Portugal), and, specifically, regarding one event, which took place between 17th to 21st July 2019: Camp-in-Gás, the Action Camp for Climate Justice and against Fossil Gas. Based on a militant ethnography carried out in this camp, I will analyze the profile of the people and groups that participated in it, the way the camp was organized, its ideological content, as well as the forms of protest developed there, focusing, above all, on its symbolic and performative dimensions. In this regard, I consider political performances as a moment of temporary break with normativity and assess the limitations and potential of these performances for the material transformation of societies.
