Author Guidelines

Publication Rules

Submitted works must be original and plagiarism-free, neutral and independent, always based on scientific facts. The author must ensure that these works have not been previously published or are currently under analysis and the possibility of publication in another physical or electronic space. However, the author may submit papers presented at scientific events that have not been published. The magazine is licensed with Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

Published articles are the responsibility of their authors. 

Papers can be presented by professors, researchers, professionals and students in the areas of Tourism, Hospitality, Restaurants and the like. Bachelor's and master's students who submit papers for consideration must have a professor as co-author. Articles may focus on empirical investigations, literature reviews in specific areas, or theoretical reflections.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject papers that it considers to be of insufficient quality, or not relevant enough to the thematic areas of the journal, or that do not comply with the rules presented below.

By submitting papers for publication in the Tourism and Hospitality International Journal, the author(s) authorize(s) the Editorial Board to carry out the editing (without changing the idea or message), formatting and dissemination rights of their article, including in national and international scientific databases and repositories, always under the mission of sharing knowledge and skills obtained from scientific and applied research in Tourism.  Hotel and Restaurant Management, gradually bringing together the community of researchers from the three areas. The author always retains the copyright of the submitted article.

Next, we present the specific rules for the delivery of papers in order to facilitate the submission system and optimize the process for authors, editorial board and reviewers. The Tourism and Hospitality International Journal is available to receive papers from the entire academic and professional community. The submitted scientific papers must comply with the following publication standards, and the author must, before submitting the manuscript, make sure that it complies with the journal's publication standards and the APA publication standards (American Psychological Association, 2010, Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th ed., Washington, DC: APA). 

Formatting Standards

All articles must be submitted on the journal's platform.

To publish in the September issue, you must submit your work by June 15th. For the March publication, you must submit your article by December 15th.

The document must be submitted using the available template and must not exceed 25 pages in total. The size of the sheet should be A4 (21cm x 29.7cm), with top, bottom and side margins of 3cm. The font must be Times New Roman at a size of 12 points. Line spacing should be two spaces.

Authors must also submit a second identical document that cannot contain any identification of the authors and their affiliations.

Paragraphs should be indented (started inwards) five to seven spaces (0.5 cm), except in headings, abstract text, and block citations (excerpts longer than 40 words). The text should be aligned only on the left side of the page (left justification) and the right margin uncertain (not justified). Submitted articles must have the following structure:

1. Title page
2. Abstract page
3. Text pages
4. References
5. Attachments (optional)

Notes should be notes on the page (wheel-foot), and tables and figures may appear in the text.

Articles should start with an abstract in Portuguese or Spanish and English, or only in English if that is the language of the article. Each one should not exceed 250 words, as well as keywords (at least 4). The abstract begins on the first line with the word Summary, centered. Paragraphs of the abstract should not be indented and should be aligned to the left and right. The abstract is a specific and accessible synopsis of the main ideas of the article.

Headings and subheadings should follow the following level formatting:

1. Level 1: Centered, Bold, with Uppercase and Lowercase Letters
2. Level 2: Left-Aligned, Bold, with Uppercase and Lowercase Letters
3. Level 3: Left-indented, bold, lowercase, and ends at a period.
4. Level 4: Indented on the left, bold and italicized, lowercase and ends in a period.
5. Level 5: Indented on the left, italicized, lowercase and ends in a period.

Foreign words should be presented in italics and not in quotation marks, except in the case of quotations from texts.

Quotation marks should be used for excerpts of text of less than 40 words, titles of articles or chapters to which the text refers, to reproduce material from a test item or instructions to participants, or when introducing a slang term or a proposed new concept.

Citations of authors and works throughout the text should follow the following standard: (Abranja, 2021);

• Abranja (2019a, 2019b)

In direct quotations (in which the text is transcribed) the author, the year and the page next to the transcription should be indicated, and in indirect quotations (in which the text is paraphrased) the author and the year of publication. No more than 3 direct citations per 10 pages is recommended. Prefer scientific journals to popular journals for your citations. In the case of direct quotations with more than 40 words (block quotations), quotation marks do not apply and the line is changed to start the quotation; The text should be half an inch away from the left margin, 5 spaces or 1.3cm and the beginning is not indented.

In the References section, you should include all the citations of the article and only those citations. You should not post works that you have not mentioned in the text. Publications should be referenced in accordance with APA standards and should take into account the following indications:

• References begin on a new page and should be listed in alphabetical order;
• When there are several references by the same author, indicate in order of seniority (first the oldest), starting with publications in which the author appears alone and only then those in which he appears with other authors;
• If there is no author, the first word with the meaning of the reference (usually the title) is placed in alphabetical order;
• If you have two references by the same authors and the same year, differentiate them by placing a letter after the year;
• All references must be left-aligned on the 1st line and be indented on subsequent lines, and placed two spaces apart;
• Article or book titles are written in lowercase letters, with the exception of ...

For all cases of References, authors must comply with the APA publication guidelines described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed., 2009).

The tables, figures or graphs must strictly respect, in their content and form, the formatting rules of the APA. Tables must be presented in Times New Roman font, in size of 10 points. The graphs should always display the values to which they refer in the space of the graph or in the form of an attached table and should allow its editing (built in Word or Excel: Microsoft graph format).

Attachments (if any) should be placed after the entire article. You should start each annexe on a different page and number them by letters (Annex A, Annex B ...).
