Abstract

The use and land occupation have important consequences on ecological systems. The management of land use is important to the preservation of the environment. Increasingly sophisticated technologies can be applied to agriculture and take a leading role in the production process and in decision-making.

This study aimed to identify and classify cultural conflict zones of occupation and land use. The groundwork used was a farm located in the district of Santarém. To achieve this goal it was used: a letter of land use capacity; a soil chart; the identification of the crops grown on parcels of the farm; some aerial photo; some tools of geographic information systems ArcGISTM. This work made it possible to define conflict zones over land use, as well as having a better perception in spatial terms of the areas that should be explored.
