Abstract

Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) is an insect responsible for fruit damages on many fruit hosts of economic importance such as strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, cherry, plum, peach and apricot, and may also affect grape, fig and kiwi. Despite being an unreported species to Terceira Island, this work had two primary goals. First was to assess its status in the island strawberry production and, secondly, assess the efficiency of three traps and lures (Water bottle with wine vinegar, a Drosal®pro with Drosalure® and a Hemitrap® with Suzii ®). For the first time, it is confirmed the presence of D. suzukii in Terceira Island strawberry production. There were no statistical differences between trap captures of females nor total adults. However, the homemade trap managed to capture about 53% of all captured adults.
