Abstract

INTRODUCTION
This article aims to contribute to the knowledge of nursing history through the description and explanation of the interventions of the nurses who participated in the 1st session of studies in the 3rd week of Nursing in 1962.

OBJECTIVE
Describe the interventions of the nurses who took part in the 1st study session on-nursing in public health, included in the III Week of Nursing, 1962. Explain the issues addressed in order to contribute to the discussion of the evolutionary trajectory of the role and action of public health nurses.

METHODS
He appealed to the historical research methodology and document analysis covering the speeches public health nurses.

RESULTS
It was found the intervention of four nurses in this session. Their thematic constituted an integral part of what is meant by public health, their action in the field of health promotion, disease prevention and rehabilitation. They intended to direct nurses ta existing programs highlighting national and World Health Organization guidelines.

CONCLUSIONS
It is considered that the reflection and discussion of these issues mad e possible the nurses knowledge of specific experiences and knowledge of public health nursing taking into account that this training was not included in the programs of nursing courses.
