Abstract

This paper presents a proposal for a sociohistorical approach to sociology inspired by the Mertonian and Bourdieusian sociology of science. In the first section, the most important contributions of both authors in this field are systematized and compared and their complementarity is underlined. In the second section, a research agenda for the sociology of sociology is outlined with a special focus on three strategic research topics: specialization, interdisciplinarity and the relations of sociology with the political field.
