Rural Habitation: A proposal from AFAMO to public habitation policies in Mozambique

The debate on Rural Habitation is characterized in Mozambique as an issue that still lacks much reflection, not only in its theoretical aspect, but also political and practical. In the context of the political, economic and social transformations underway in the country, it is necessary to adopt policies and strategies in the area of habitation, for a progressive improvement in the lives of citizens, in the light of Agenda 2025. In this perspective, in the form of a contribution, the Academic Forum Association of Mozambique (AFAMO), intends to take up the challenge, proposing the actions in “Transforming Rural Communities program in Mozambique”, through the project “Rural Habitation, my Decent Home” in direct cooperation with the Government and other living forces of society to gradually create a better living conditions for rural communities in the country. The research has as methodological procedures in bibliographic, documental and fieldwork. As a result, the district of Tambara in the Province of Manica was identified as a pioneer to host in an experimental way, the implementation of the program, due to its great potential in the agricultural activity, being it necessary the involvement of a multi-sectorial team from academics to local government authorities, to create awareness by raising actions for families who carry out livestock activities or who have above-average income in agricultural production to participate in the organized marketing processes in the sustainable sale of the obtained results, whose funds would be directed to the investment for the construction of their decent homes.
