Abstract

This article examines the authoritarianism and neo-cooperativism (of the left) that were characteristic of the Portuguese revolution of 1974-75 and seeks to discover the reasons why, from 1976, the conquests of the PREC («processo revolucionário em curso» - on-going revolutionary process) only slowly gave way to the establishment of full, western-style democracy.
