Abstract

Urban intervention is part of territorial recognition policy, which presupposes, among many aspects, urban planning. Aveiro, the only plains city, which only became a city in 1759, reflects this context. Given this, it is interesting to observe, on the one hand, how control of the coast was assumed by central power, and, on the other hand, the capacity of Aveiro to accept or protest about these transformations. This presupposes the study of: intervention policies in the port cities; public works, between traditional and state management; changes in the functions of the city.
