Abstract

The theoretical paths of the sociology of deviance are described here based on two conceptual inspirations from the legacy of Durkheim: infrigement and censorship. An analysis of deviance from the angle of infringement favoured explanations whose central concern was the violation of social norms. When the approach is from the angle of censorship, theories are referred to which question urgency and the changing of the social norms and the resulting consequences for the social identity of the individuals to whom these categories are applied.
