Notes on the population - population levels and ageing: contrasts between the municipalities of continental

Abstract

Continental Portugal is characterised by profound contrasts in demographic terms. Many of the diversities follow a spatial logic, whereby the North contrasts with the South and the Coastal Regions contrast with the Interior, for example. This study distinguishes some of the recent demographic contrasts (particularly in terms of levels of population and population ageing), which, when evaluated at the municipal level, do not always correspond to complementary and consistent geographic zones.
