Abstract

This article seeks to inform the Portuguese reader about Werner Sombart, a man who was co-founder, together with Max Weber and Ernst Troeltsch, of Verstehende Soziologie (interpretive sociology). It sets out the main stages of his life and the main lines of his thought. It also seeks to assess the scope of his doctrines in both theoretical and practical terms, in the context of social studies, and offers a bibliography of his writings and translations.
