Abstract

The emergence of computer networks as a readily available means of communication has made a significant change to our communicational practices. The question addressed in this article is: to what extent do computer networks take new co-ordinates for space and time for granted? Carried away by the typical optimism of the nouveaux riches, we are ready to consider new worlds, new utopias, whereby we forget that behind these Utopian arguments there are always arguments of power. We are repeatedly told that we live in a «new global order», as if uniformity was achievable.
