Alice in the Land of Real Estate Speculation: Housing and Modes of Life in the City of São Paulo

Abstract

This article presents a brief reading of the recent evolution of living spaces in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, comparing them with the changes in the way of life and demographic profile of the population. This issue is part of the concerns of the Nomads.usp Núcleo de Estudos sobre Habitação e Modos de Vida, of the University of São Paulo, coordinated by the author, who seeks to rethink the design of spaces of contemporary housing, considering the transformations in the family groups since the English industrial revolution, its current behavioural trends, as well as its relationship with the use of new media. This includes the redesign of its furniture and the revision of its constructive repertoire, giving priority to environmental concerns, through theoretical reflections and the realization of experimental architectural projects.
