Abstract

This article analyses the recent state of rental housing affordability in Portugal, using microdata from the Survey on Income and Living Conditions, 2016. Aiming to identify the socioeconomic characteristics of the households considered to be at risk of having this kind of problem, the study applies the residual income approach, comparatively to the expenditure-to-income ratio. The results suggest that most households are at risk of having affordability problems, noting the better suitability of the residual income to make the analysis.
