Novas capitais no sul global
Contexto pós-modernista, configuração modernista em África e no Brasil

Este artigo contextualiza a história do planeamento de Abuja (Nigéria, 1979-1981) e Palmas (Brasil, 1989), considerando redes de conhecimento, ideias em curso e as ferramentas dos urbanistas. Procura analisar as configurações destas novas capitais através de uma leitura mais global da história do planeamento. Argumenta-se que os planos, criados a partir de imperativos políticos e económicos e confiados a expectativas transformadoras, não abandonaram os modelos modernistas hegemónicos nos tempos pós-modernistas e pós-coloniais, independentemente das origens dos planeadores. As ideias globais ocultaram sensibilidades culturais em ambos os casos, à medida que profissionais locais e estrangeiros desenvolveram propostas de planeamento comparáveis em respostas equivalentes às estruturas internacionais.
