O apego ao lugar numa vila piscatória em transição
A relação dos habitantes da Fuzeta com a Ria Formosa

O principal objetivo deste artigo é compreender a relação que os residentes da Fuzeta, uma vila piscatória do sul de Portugal, estabelecem com o Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, através do conceito de apego ao lugar (place attachment). Estudos recentes sobre a relação entre os indivíduos e os lugares têm vindo a destacar a importância do conceito de apego ao lugar, mas apesar da abundante utilização, o conceito parece ainda subteorizado. Acresce que a escassez de investigação sobre o apego ao lugar nos Parques Naturais portugueses dotou esta investigação de um carácter exploratório e conduziu à necessidade de dar uma nova definição ao conceito e à construção de um modelo analítico mais alargado.
A atribuição e manutenção de significados e valores aos lugares implica, não só a relação das pessoas com os elementos físicos dos territórios, mas também as interações sociais que aí têm lugar, a sua história e cultura partilhadas, bem como outros aspetos que tanto podem fortalecer como enfraquecer o apego das pessoas aos lugares. Propõe-se, neste artigo, um novo modelo analítico para o conceito que inclui, ao mesmo tempo, os fatores que participam na atribuição de significados e valores aos lugares, e também aqueles que participam deste processo quer de forma contributiva, quer disruptiva.
O estudo empírico apresentado neste artigo adotou uma metodologia qualitativa e interpretativa com recurso a entrevistas semiestruturadas em profundidade. Assim, foram entrevistados 26 residentes da Fuzeta que exercem atividades profissionais ou de lazer na Ria Formosa. Os entrevistados são profissionais de diversas atividades que utilizam a Ria - pescadores e mariscadores, trabalhadores de restaurantes e hotelaria - bem como, aqueles que se dedicam a atividades de lazer - fazer praia, pesca lúdica, apanha de moluscos e crustáceos, caminhadas, passeios de barco e campismo. Os resultados indicam que os habitantes da Fuzeta têm uma forte e multidimensional ligação à Ria Formosa a qual está relacionada com as emoções e os sentimentos sentimento que a Ria lhes desperta e, principalmente, e com a perceção da sua insubstituibilidade.
