Call for Papers – Issue on Women’s Sports: Contributions from Research and Transdisciplinary

2025-04-07

Sport can positively impact girls' and women’s lives through the improvement of physical and mental health; nevertheless, throughout history, females have faced several challenges to becoming more involved in sport, with gender representation achieved for the first time in the Paris Olympic Games 2024. Despite the critical role of sport and exercise research for athletic performance and overall health, exercise prescription guidelines, nutrition and injury prevention strategies, as well as other relevant issues are based on male models and approaches.

Therefore, this issue of Motricidade Journal calls for multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary papers to fill the current gaps in girls'/women's sports knowledge and increase female representation in sports research.

To continue to strive for equitable sports practices, we encourage submissions across potential fields, but not limited to:

  • Sports Medicine
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Sports Psychology
  • Sports Management
  • Sports Sociology

We believe this issue will promote a meaningful and interdisciplinary dialogue about the challenges and opportunities of women’s sports.
