The main objective of this systematic review, using the PRISMA model, was to analyse the effects of retirement from sports and how these affect mental and physical health. The PubMed, PsycARTICLES, and Web of Science databases were used, and a total of 13 articles were selected in the final screening. It was concluded that retirement from sports is a complex phenomenon with mental health effects related to stress, anxiety, depression, loss of identity, and the physical challenges associated with detraining; this suggests the need to develop specific programs tailored to each individual case.Downloads
