Defence and resources: a debate about security in the globalisation

Abstract

The present international states system is characterized by two trends: the effects produced by the movements of integration/disintegration and the consequences of global economy, which modified the concept of state and led to a new approach of the security one. The author describes the main schools of thought from realist, liberal to idealist school and concludes that in the post Cold War there is a tendency for these three approaches to become closer. The seriousness and impact of some of the global problems and their relationship with social and armed conflicts conduct to an enlargement of the security concept, that the author analysis beyond its strictly military perspective.
