Abstract

This essay analyzes the geoeconomic challenges and implications of the new European defense strategy, centered on the 5% of GDP investment target agreed at the 2025 NATO Summit. Based on the hypothesis that this goal can only be achieved through a profound economic and regulatory overhaul that will considerably boost economic growth, the text explores the risks of rearmament without financial foundation, the structural conditions for a sustainable effort, and the importance of securing Europe’s technological and industrial sovereignty. Three strategic scenarios for the future of European defense policy are presented, reinforcing the urgency of an integrated approach linking defense, innovation, business incentives, fiscal policy, and external trade.
