Abstract

This article has a general objective to understand how the current policing system is suited to the demands of sporting events. During the investigation, we found the existence of a safety culture that difficults the private security to assume the exclusive security of a sporting event. The presence of a Security Force is essential, being more notorious in sporting events held on public roads. Despite the potentialities, we identified some vulnerabilities in this policing regime, therefore we propose a set of measures that can be implemented, namely the gradual adaptation to the policing model used in the United Kingdom. In order for this to be possible, it would be necessary to increase the number of sports ground assistants, to investe more in their training and give them more abilities, contributing to their authority in the presence of the fans.
