Introduction: Cognitive-behavioral approach is based on the relationship between cognitions, emotions and behaviors, in time-limited therapeutic processes and oriented towards specific goals where the person plays an active role in their therapeutic potentiation.
Objectives: This article aims to explore Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy as an psychological evaluation and intervention approach and demonstrate its effectivness in a case of panic disorder.
Methods: During the clinical evaluation process, data was collected, allowing the development of case formulation, which, in turn, supported the therapeutic protocol. The intervention took place during 11 sessions, spread over three phases (acute/continuation/maintenance).
Results/Conclusions: The combination of different strategies (e.g., psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, social skills training), combined with the promotion of empowerment and autonomy, allowed the achievement of exponential therapeutic gains as well as the enhancement of functionality, well-being and quality of life. The applied procedures culminated in clinical discharge and allowed to demonstrate Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy potential and effectiveness.
