Abstract

Diógenes syndrome is characterized by severe self-neglect, marked social withdrawal, syllogomania (collection of useless objects), lack of shame and refusal of help. It may be precipitated by stressful events and is also called Senile Squalor Syndrome. Most patients with Diógenes Syndrome live alone. A typical case is presented.
