The Journal of Nursing Referência

The Journal of Nursing Referência (RER) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Health Sciences Research Unit: Nursing (UICISA: E). The UICISA: E is hosted by the Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC) and assessed and funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). RER is indexed in several highly relevant national and international databases and networks, such as Scopus, SciELO Portugal, DOAJ, CINAHL via EBSCOHost, RCAAP, Latindex, Redalyc, ProQuest, ... .

RER targets students, researchers, nurses, and other Health and Education professionals, and its mission is to disseminate the scientific knowledge produced in Health and Education Sciences, with an impact on health gains and the scientific development of nursing. All RER’s articles must have scientific depth, originality, and national and international relevance for the scientific advancement of the issue under study.

RER publishes original research articles, systematic and scoping review articles, historical research articles, and theoretical articles/essays. It also publishes editorials with relevant and updated scientific content in Education and Health Sciences.

RER is a Portuguese scientific journal of international distribution with continuous (rolling pass) and bilingual publication. It accepts the submission of articles in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, and all articles have an English version. Also, all articles’ metadata (title, abstract, and keywords) are published in these three languages.

RER follows open-access policies in alignment with the Open Science approach. All RER’s articles are published in open access, under the terms of the Creative Commons 4.0 Attribution License CC-BY - gold open access, without embargo. The full texts of all RER’s articles are made available free of charge. Authors agree to pay for the article’s translation once it has been accepted for publication.

In accordance with its editorial policies, RER updates its Author’s Guidelines (Instruções aos Autores) annually.

RER was first published in January 1998 under the title of Revista de Educação e Formação em Enfermagem da Escola Superior de Enfermagem Dr. Ângelo da Fonseca.

In December 2005, the 2nd Series began under the name Referência: Revista Científica da Unidade de Investigação em Ciências da saúde: domínio de Enfermagem.

On the occasion of its 3rd Series, in July 2010, the journal was renamed Revista de Enfermagem Referência.

The following brief historical summary of RER’s background provides insight into the main milestones of its development. It allows an understanding of the culture of pedagogical and inclusive mission this non-profit project has sought since 1998, converging competitiveness and non-profit collaborative action.

RER is organized in series and issues. The organization in series aims to provide visibility to the changes made to the journal. Thus, RER starts a new series whenever relevant continuous improvement changes occur.

 

1998

  • The project is launched: 1st Series: Revista de Educação e Formação em Enfermagem da Escola Superior de Enfermagem Dr. Ângelo da Fonseca.
  • ISSNp assigned: 0874-0283

2004

  • The UICISA: E, hosted by the ESEnfC, is accredited by the FCT and responsible for editing the journal, integrated into the UICISA: E Development Strategic Axis for the Edition and Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge.

1st Series

  • 13 issues published (80 articles)

2005

  • 2nd Series begins, with the name of Referência: Revista Científica da Unidade de Investigação em Ciências da saúde: domínio de Enfermagem
  • Introduction of the blind review process, adjusting the journal’s criteria to the level of international journals and database requirements

2006

  • All articles are made available in full text on the website https://rr.esenfc.pt/rr/
  • The journal is indexed in CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) via EBSCOHost, CUIDEN and accessible via Hemeroteca Cantárida, and in Latindex
  • The journal becomes a member of CIBERE, Index Foundation

2007

  • The journal is ranked on QUALIS

2009
