Analyses of PS and PSD frequently consider them to be identical or extremely similar parties. This article presents a quantitive and qualitative study of the election programmes of the two parties from 1991 to 2009. The issues that appear most frequently in their manifestoes are presented. The findings indicate that PS and PSD are not ideologically neutral or identical parties. However, they present non-ideological proposals with greater regularity and are closer than other European parties that have also dominated the respective party systems.Downloads
