RESUMO
O sistema de selecção representa um complexo processo pedagógico que é dinâmico, sistemático, pensado a longo prazo e orientado para a escolha de personalidades individuais com elevadas capacidades morfológicas, psíquicas e físicas, para assegurar a obtenção de máximos resultados desportivos.
O objectivo do sistema de selecção é dirigir e orientar as crianças para certas posições desportivas conjugadas com um processo de treino adequado que lhes permita atingir altos resultados desportivos. A selecção tem a sua periodização: a primeira selecção marca o início dum longo processo que acaba com o fim da carreira desportiva.
