This study shows the state-of-art of volunteering in Portugal over recent years, which currently involves in 2018, 700,000 people. We began by indicating the different concepts of volunteering, its legal framework and which are the main volunteer organizations with an emphasis on the 159 existing volunteer banks. We elaborated a profile of the Portuguese volunteer (by gender, educational qualifications, age and available hours), what are their main motivations for this activity. We ended the study with an indication of the economic impact of volunteering in Portugal, which is close to 0.8 of GDP.
