Abstract

The basis for good mental health is defined in the early years of childhood and adolescence, thus defending the investment in promoting the mental health of children and young people as a strategy for obtaining gains in adult health. In the field of school health, mental health training is also focused on promoting socio-emotional skills. Health promotion, carried out by general care nurses, is one of the statements described in the quality standards of nursing care.

Objectives: To identify which socio-emotional competences are most sensitive to intervention programs in the school context; To know the impact of intervention programs in the promotion of socio-emotional competences in children in the 1st cycle of basic education.

Methodology: Integrative Literature Review based on the research question: What is the impact of intervention programs in the promotion of socio-emotional competences in children in the 1st cycle of basic education? Research was carried out through the B-ON and EBSCOhost platforms, in several databases, from 2012 to 2020.

Results: After the selection process, five articles were elected. The results show that the implementation of these types of programs has a positive impact on interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, social cooperation, academic performance, positive coping strategies in conflict resolution and children's emotional well-being.

Conclusions: The importance of implementing programs aimed at children was understood, providing them with skills to face adversities throughout life. Thus, the role of the nurse is fundamental for the promotion of mental health and prevention of mental illness in the long term.
