Part of the consistent decline of Portuguese fertility has been explained by the changes in the reproductive calendar, not knowing, however, the extent to which fertility postponement is likely to influence the completed fertility of individuals. This article analyzes the fertility of a cohort of women, taking into account their level of education, their age at birth of first child, and the gap between the desired fertility over a lifetime and the fertility achieved.
