Abstract

As a political vision and an alternative social order, anarchy has seen a sharp come-back since the end of the 20th century, through the thoughts and practices of social movements responding to globalization pressures. This article examines the panorama of contemporary anarchy – first its many manifestations in popular protests and “occupations”, and second – the main focus of the study – the fascination in philosophy and acts of anarchy pertaining to “insurrection”, the influence of which is seen in mass public protests against seated powers and in clandestine “international dark activism”.
