Abstract

Based on the collapse of Hintze Ribeiro’s bridge in Portugal this article highlights the analytic possibilities of a sociology with disasters. This sociology takes into account interaction between the political management of crisis induced by the disaster, the event mediatisation and the interpellative power of suffering and death. The discretionary production of exception amplifies the distance between the state and the citizens, reforming the power of the first and augmenting the dis-power of the left.
