Abstract

This paper is about upper classes’ social distinction and is based on the results of a case study developed in a leading private school located in Lisbon. We identify the distinctive mark in two important signs: the name and the school attended by descendants. We analyze the distinctive proprieties of the students’ names and investigate parents’ motivations in choosing that specific school.
