In 2003 a new Family Law was approved in Mozambique, based on modernist and egalitarian conceptions of family and gender. In the light of the changes which have taken place in urban society in Maputo, how are men building and rebuilding their identities? This article discusses the pluralization of masculinities, observing the hybrid nature of domination through the trajectories of men who are «between worlds», at points where pre-colonial traditions, colonial legacies and a globalized post-colonial society intersect.
