Abstract

This article analyzes fertility in Mozambique, making two assumptions regarding patterns of population growth. On the one hand, the significance of nuptiality in regulating demographic growth and, on the other, the change in direction of so-called intergenerational wealth flows as the key to the transition in fertility, particularly in societies where that transition has not yet occurred.
