Abstract

This article deals with the stigma which lusophone emigrants/immigrants faced in host societies, as portrayed in the literary work of Henfil Diário de Um Cucaracha. To this end we look at the history of the formation of the Portuguese empire and the diaspora of the heirs to the language of Camões, in the light of the work of B. S. Santos and the body of theory put together by E. Goffman and Z. Bauman.
