Sortelha and Monsaraz: a case study of two tourist spots in inland Portugal

Abstract

This article addresses the way in which two traditional rural villages in inland Portugal have been converted to tourism, how their culture and history have been made part of the heritage, the supply and demand for tourism, relations between residents and visiting tourists and local inhabitants' perceptions of tourism and tourists.
